“Quasi Centenaria” roughly translates to “about 100 years old,” a reference to this gnarly old Carignan vineyard planted right around 1919. The vines grow on two steep, rock-covered, slopes, one facing north and the other south, located in the heart of Priorat. Given the age of the vines, the lack of water, extreme heat, and absence of nutrients in the soil, these vines struggle to give 300 grams of fruit per bush – enough for about two-thirds of a bottle per vine.
Do not want to sound like a broken record, but WOW! WOW! WOW! a powerhouse of a wine with extraordinary character, flavor, balance, acidity, tannins and pure pleasure. It is hard not to drink this wine at this stage because it makes you want to drink more and more. Intoxicating aromas of smoked bacon, violet aromas, stone minerality, dark fruits all continuing on to the palate with cocoa, cassis, vibrancy and more complexity which evolves in the glass. A wine which will age beautifully for 30 to 40 more years. Bravo Silvia!
