We’ve sold every commercial release of this wine, starting with the 2008. And the thing that always jumps out at you about it is the amazing freshness for a wine of such mammoth power and from such a ridiculously hot, dry, place as Priorat. My first reaction to the 2019 “Classic,” Silvia’s flagship cuvee was WOW! The concentration and intensity are even higher than in the past, and there’s certainly no shortage of huge red raspberry and baked strawberry fruit with complicating notes of sweet spice, roasted meat and smoke for extra interest. But what’s so impressive is how fresh the just-right acids and super-refined (if gum-climbing) tannins balance all the richness and power to perfection. The flavors right now suggest very, very, excellent Chateauneuf du Pape, but the structure, grip, and slate minerality could only be Priorat. And Silvia’s Priorat Classic, at that.
