We’ve sold every commercial release of this wine, starting with 2008. And the thing that always jumps out at you about it is the amazing freshness of a wine of such mammoth power and from such a ridiculously hot, dry, place as Priorat.
This is a blend of mainly Garnacha (both Negre and “Hairy” Grenache) with dollops of Syrah and Carinyena (including some planted in 1919). The 2018 has developed nicely in the bottle but again still youthful. The slate minerality, dark chocolate, figs, and raisins. In the mouth its deep dark/blue fruits come through so wonderfully, showing an almost “roasted meat” character, together with the compelling slate-like/iron-ore minerality, that is complimented by the refreshing acidity mixed with the power of the alcohol framing this dense wine. This is a wine that delivers a gorgeous mixture of both power and grace. It’s both aromatically and in the mouth a seamless balance of fruit, purity, concentration and vibrancy.
