The winery produces single-vineyard bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as select bottlings of Chardonnay across Napa’s most coveted appellations including Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Howell Mountain, and Calistoga, among others. The process of selecting a site to produce a single-vineyard wine is of paramount importance. Every aspect of a vineyard must meet Nickel & Nickel’s exacting standards, including the soil, rootstock, clonal selection, exposure, and farming practices. The viticulture team farms with precision, based on what is required for each site to achieve the purest expression of place. The process reveals how vineyards that are, in some cases less than a mile apart and growing the same varietal, may produce wines of a remarkably different character.
From the winery - "The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880’s. The 2022 vintage opens with vibrant floral aromas mingling with hints of plum and olive. It captivates the senses with an irresistible bouquet. On the palate, juicy black cherry, rich tobacco, spicy anise, and a touch of toast come together, enhanced by a lively yet balanced acidity. These dynamic flavors are supported by a robust core of tannins that unfold gracefully, leading to a long finish."
