The baddest wine of them all, Machete takes no prisoners. It is in your face aromatically, punching your mouth from within. The tannins remind you what it’s like to feel, and the ink will put a smile on your face. Our simple goal with Machete was to elevate Petite Sirah to the main stage and let it express its own attitude. Robust, dominant and unapologetic, the wine creates its own gravity, pulling all towards it with vintage after vintage resulting in a stellar blend of Petite Sirah and Grenache.
The 2022 Macheterelaxes in the glass with an opaque, inky garnet core and a neon violet rim; be careful, it stains. Aromatically, the wine opens with powerful notes of bright black plum, slate, cacao, wild sage and crushed gravel. The transition to the palate screams with its brawny presence of brooding blackberry pie and ripe blue fruits yet tempered with hints of orange peel and Amarena cherry. Chewy tannins, typical of Petite Sirah, soften over time and culminate in a lengthy finish with a note of sweet oak.
