The Scacciadiavoli estate has its roots in 1884, when the Prince of Piombino, Ugo Boncompagni Ludovisi, invested a huge capital in an estate of 180 hectares between the municipalities of Montefalco, Gualdo Cattaneo and Giano Dell’Umbria, where he planted 150 hectares of guyot-trained vines. Until then, the ancient vite maritata (vine married to a tree) was the most widespread system of cultivation in Umbria, and these were the first guyot-specialized vineyards.
The estate has remained intact throughout the decades. The three owners (Ugo Boncompagni, Vittorio Rolandi Ricci, the Pambuffetti family) have not modified the extension of the land nor the central building, the winery. Since 1954 the company has been in the hands of the Pambuffetti family, now in its fourth generation. Amilcare and Carlo are joined by their sons and grandchildren Liù, Iacopo, Romeo, Fiammetta, Amilcare Jr.
