Terrabianca winery, now known as Arillo in Terrabianca, has a history rooted in both tradition and innovation. The estate, first documented in 1085, was revitalized in 1988 by Roberto Guldener. He focused on revitalizing the vineyards and producing high-quality wines, particularly from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. In 2019, the Burkard family acquired the estate, along with other properties, and launched the Arillo in Terrabianca project, aiming for a sustainable and contemporary wine business model.
The iconic Campaccio, a Sangiovese-based blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, was one of the first wines produced and remains a staple. The original vineyards were replanted, focusing on south and southeast-facing slopes with specific soil compositions (chalk, sand, and clay).
The Burkards launched the Arillo in Terrabianca project, aiming to combine traditional Tuscan winemaking with modern, sustainable practices. The project emphasizes organic and minimalist wine growing, with a focus on native grape varieties and wines with a strong territorial identity. In essence, Terrabianca's history reflects a journey from a historic rural property to a modern, forward-thinking wine estate under the Arillo in Terrabianca project, with a strong commitment to quality, sustainability, and the unique terroir of Tuscany.
Forerunner among the Super Tuscans wines, Campaccio is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. Aged in French oak barrique for one year, followed by an additional six months of aging in the bottle. It displays an intense ruby- red color and a full decisive body. Fine and balanced, it expresses olfactory sensations of ripe fruits, with toasted notes and vanilla scents. The palate is wide, persistent and balanced thanks to a smooth tannic texture well integrated into its structure. An iconic wine with a long finish with a remarkable aging potential.
