The story began with Michel Chapoutier, a unique man with a thirst for knowledge, definitely one of a kind. Michel is openminded and always willing to learn. He seeks to discover and reflect the full potential of his terroirs and let the soils express their true character. That which gives the wines their signature style. This now forms the basis of the M. CHAPOUTIER ethos and our team strives to reveal the very best of what the soils have to offer. Respect is at the beginning of everything. Respect for the terroir, this unique equation between the soil, the climate and human talent. Respect for the earth by anticipating its needs. Respect for the plant and the fruit, until the harvest. Respect for the consumers, whether they are wine connoisseurs or not. Without respect, wine has no soul. For M. CHAPOUTIER, boldness is about embracing new horizons and opening to other terroirs. It is about combining tradition and modernity to imagine a new know-how. Boldness is an impetus that leads to all possibilities. Opening to biodynamics is first of all about observing, noticing and acting. Some agricultural methods erode the soils and weaken them, they stifle biological life regardless how important it is. This observation led us to taking a stand and daring a disruptive move. Since 1991, biodynamics is at the heart M. CHAPOUTIER’s philosophy.
Their Crozes-Hermitage is vinified traditionally with punching down and pumping over taking place in concrete tanks. This wine is made from organically grown grapes. The exclusion of all chemical products (in particular herbicides), and the ploughing of the vineyards, enables the vine to plunge its root system deep down into the heart of the soil. Deeper root systems make the vine’s physiological behavior more even, and provide better resistance to sudden and variable weather conditions. As to the wines, a more subtle balance and a pronounced minerality set this wine apart from other Crozes-Hermitage wines produced from this sedimentary soil.
Very intense purplish red. on the nose red fruits, blackcurrant and raspberry, followed by violet aromas. These continue onto the palate with ample and round, final of stewed fruits and vanilla.
Absolutely love Yalumba Viognier The Virilgus that we were introduced to by OWS Wine.
Bryan at OWS introduced us to this wine we had never had before. Knowing that I prefer dry whites, Bryan thought I would like it. He was wrong, I love it! We initially bought six bottles and came back for a case! No sweet after taste I find common in Viogniers.
